A Covid vaccination clinic for children and teens will be held this Saturday Dec. 4th from 9:00 am- 2:00 pm at the new Calvert Health Department vaccination location in the Fox Run Shopping Center, near the Prince Frederick Giant. Covid vaccinations are recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics.
The address of the new location is 713 Solomons Island Rd.
Calvert County parents and children are off to a great start. We currently have the 3rd highest vaccination rate of 5-11 year-olds in Maryland (out of 24 counties). We’d like to keep the momentum going by providing parents and guardians with a weekend option for vaccination appointments before we head into the holidays and family get togethers.
Although the 2-dose vax series won’t be completed prior to Christmas, two weeks after first dose, studies have shown that children, teens, and adults are least 70% protected against Covid infections. The second dose of the series will be offered during the week between Christmas and New Year’s. Vaccines will reach full protection shortly after children return from winter break. Children will then be at less risk from the health effects of Covid, and they will be less likely to have disruptions to school and extracurricular activities.
The Health Department will have separate vaccination stations for 5-11 year-old children and adolescents 12 and older. Since the doses are different for the two age groups, we want to assure that each child and teen receives the proper amount of vaccine. As always, we encourage parents to talk to their children’s health care providers if they have questions about vaccination.
You can schedule appointments through the following secure website:
If you need assistance scheduling an appointment, please call 410-535-0218 Monday, Wednesday, and Friday between 08:30a-4:30p.
We also encourage all adults to get vaccinated. For those who received their 2-dose series prior to July, it is recommended to have a booster dose before the holidays. Adults can schedule an initial dose or a booster during one of our other clinic days. A list of options can be found at the following link:
Currently, Calvert County has the second lowest Covid mortality rate in Maryland and the lowest Covid hospitalization rate in the state. Let’s continue to protect families and the medically vulnerable in our community. Here’s to a safe and healthy holiday season!
