Calvert County Services Available for Families During COVID-19 Closure

Calvert County Health Department Most services continue to be provided. Please contact Calvert County Health Department (410-535-5400) for assistance. For the latest Coronavirus information https://www.calvertcountycovid19.com/

 

DSS – (443-550-6900). The DSS lobby is closed to customers. Calls are answered by the answering service who relays the message to DSS Staff. Customers can apply for benefits, check their benefits and update their information by going to their “myDHR” account. (https://mydhrbenefits.dhr.state.md.us/)

  1. Food Stamp (FS), Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA) and Purchase of Care (Child Care Vouchers)

    • Customers can apply for benefits, check their benefits and update their information by going to their “myDHR” account. (https://mydhrbenefits.dhr.state.md.us/)

    • Customers who do not have access to the internet can call Maryland Benefit Center (1-833-373-5867) for assistance.

    • Prince Frederick DSS also has a limited number of printed applications outside DSS. Customers can complete the application drop box.

    • FS and TCA active cases that expired on 3/31/2020 have been extended.  All cases will continue to be extended through the COVID-19 crisis until further notice.

  5. Child Protective Services and Adult Protective Services – (443-550-6969/after-hours number 866-898-9848) Services will continue as before.

 

Medical Assistance/State Health Insurance

  1. For new Medical Assistance benefits, to report changes or to provide needed documentation, apply at Marylandhealthconnection.gov or call Maryland Health Connection Call Center (1-855-642-8772).

  2. Maryland Health Connection opened an emergency special enrollment period for uninsured Marylanders. You can enroll in a health plan through December 15, 2020. Medicaid enrollment is available all year. Medicaid enrollment is available all year.

  • a) MarylandHealthConnection.gov or download the free “Enroll MHC” mobile app.

  • b) When enrolling, request or select “Coronavirus Emergency Special Enrollment Period.”

  • c) The online application is available daily 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

  • 3)For individuals who have an urgent need and/or do not have access to the internet, please call Calvert County Health Department (410-535-5400 x 334) to schedule an appointment.

WIC

All Southern Maryland WIC offices are currently closed to the public, but WIC staff can help you get your benefits over the phone. WIC benefits are being provided to all eligible families remotely.

  • Clients are encouraged to take needed education classes available online to continue benefits.

  • If you need assistance, send an email to charlescounty.wic@maryland.gov or leave a voicemail message at 301-609-6857. Please provide your name, WIC ID number if you have one and a good daytime number to contact you.

  • If you are unable to find formula for your baby, CareNet of Lexington Park (301-737-4604) and Birthright (410-257-1402) may be able to assist you.

  1. CareNet Prince Frederick will be closed. Services are consolidated to the Lexington Park office.

  2. Formula, diapers and wipes (no clothing) are available on the following schedule: Monday 9-8, Tuesday 9-5, Thursday 9-5.

  3. Online classes are still available.

Birthright

  1. Hours of operation during COVID-19 closures are Tuesday 6-8:30 pm, Wednesday 5-8 pm.

  2. Birthright will continue to give formula, diapers, wipes and clothing

  3. Clients can return BEFORE two weeks if they need supplies until the immediate crisis is over.

  4. Newborn layettes can be given prior to the birth of the baby.

Office on Aging

  1. All 3 senior centers in Calvert County are closed until further notice

  2. Meals on Wheels deliveries will continue

  3. Congregate meal participants may request meal delivery through the Office on Aging at 410-535-4606

  4. Chesapeake Cares Food Pantry 6045 Solomons Island Rd, Prince Frederick (410-257-3444)Tuesday 4:30-7:30 pm and Thursday 9 - 12 noon. Drive-through pickup. Prepacking boxes for families

  5. First Lutheran Church 6300 Southern Maryland Blvd, Huntingtown (410-257-3030)Monday - Thursday 9am – 2 pm. Please call first (410-257-3030) to have staff meet you outside.

  6. Hands of God Mobile Street Ministry, Kathryn Tyler-King 410-535-2275Provides food for seniors at Calvert Pines and Chapline House. Call if you are not a current participant

  9. St Anthony’s Church 8823 Dayton Ave, North Beach (410-286-7086)Hours: Tuesday 12-2pm, 2nd Wednesday 5-7 and last Saturday 10:00-noon. Drive-through pickup

  10. St John Vianney 440 Main Street, Prince Frederick (410-286-1944)Wednesdays 3-6pm and second Saturday 3-6 pm **Because of Easter and Holy Week, the Saturday Food Pantry will be closed on 4/4/20 through 4/11/20** Drive-through pickup.

  11. MD Summer Meals Program – Free meals for youth 18 and younger during COVID-19 closures (see mdsummermeals.org for more information) FOR ALL SITES, Monday and Wednesday from 11 am- 12 noon. Child MUST be in the car to receive meals

  15. Windy Hill Middle School parking lot. Kids Kits – Done in conjunction with End Hunger. Provides breakfast and lunch (shelf stabile) for two days. The child does not need to be present for pick-up. Items can be picked up by families or friends of family.
